This is the official setup guide for your Ledger hardware wallet. Follow these secure, step-by-step instructions to get started and ensure the safety of your crypto assets. Carefully unbox your Ledger device. Ensure the packaging is sealed and untampered. Inside you should find:
Open your browser and manually type in the official Ledger start address (do not use search engines or links). This page will guide you to download the Ledger Live app and verify your device’s authenticity.
Ledger Live is the official application for managing your wallet. Choose your operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android) and install the app. Open it and choose the option to set up a new device.
Use the USB cable to connect your Ledger to your computer. The device will prompt you to choose a PIN code. This PIN will protect your device if it's lost or stolen.
Choose a PIN that is 4 to 8 digits long. Avoid simple combinations like 1234 or 0000.
Your Ledger will generate a 24-word recovery phrase. Write these words down on the recovery card provided. Do not take photos, screenshots, or store this phrase digitally.
Never share your recovery phrase with anyone. Anyone with this phrase can access your crypto funds.
You will be asked to confirm selected words from your 24-word phrase. This step ensures that you wrote them down correctly and in the right order.
In Ledger Live, go to the Manager tab and allow it to connect to your device. This is where you install apps for individual cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.
Once you install the apps for your chosen cryptocurrencies, go to the Accounts tab in Ledger Live and add the corresponding accounts. This allows you to receive, send, and manage assets securely.
Now that your wallet is set up, you can send and receive crypto, view balances, and explore features like staking or NFT storage — all within Ledger Live. Be sure to stay updated with firmware and software updates to maintain maximum security.
Once set up, your Ledger device becomes your secure gateway to the crypto world. Protect your PIN and recovery phrase as if they were the keys to a vault — because they are.
